Romanceopoly Update + February TBR

Romanceopoly Board

So, it’s only been one month and I’ve already strayed from my planned TBR — but you know what? I’m okay with that. Anyway, here are the challenges I completed in January:

#1 – Leather Lane: Read an urban fantasy where the series is already completed.

For this challenge, I read Halfway to the Grave, book one of the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. I really enjoyed this book and want to continue the series at some point. It’s a fun paranormal romance that had me hooked from the first page.

#2 – Library: Read any book you want.

For this one, I read Say Yes to the Marquess, book two of the Castles Ever After series by Tessa Dare. I love Tessa’s writing, and this book did not disappoint. It’s one of the funniest books I’ve ever read, and I highly enjoyed it.

#3 – Kickass Lane – Read an urban fantasy with a picture of a kickass heroine on the cover.

Here’s where I strayed from my plan. I was going to read Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews, but since my loan on it was about to run out and I had trouble getting into the story since I found it kind of disjointed, I backtracked and counted Nightchaser, book one of the Endeavor series by Amanda Bouchet, for this challenge. I really enjoyed this one and wish I already had the next book in the series to read, but sadly it’s not published yet.

All in all, I’d say my progress with Romanceopoly is going pretty well so far! Here are the books I plan to read in February:

#4 – Downtown: Read a rockstar romance – Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen

This author comes highly recommended, so I have my fingers crossed for this one!

#5 – Beanies: Post pics of your bookshelves using #romanceopolyshelfie

This one will be over on my Instagram whenever I get around to posting it lol.

#6 – Growing Pains Place: Read a young adult book – Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1) by Cassandra Clare

This one’s sat on my shelf unread for far too long, so it’s time to get it read.

#7 – Mystery Pick #1: Read a fated lovers romance – Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1) by C.L. Wilson

I was excited when this challenge was announced because I already had a book that would satisfy it. I loved The Winter King but haven’t gotten around to reading anything else by Wilson, so I’m happy about this pick.

#8 – Memory Lane: Read a historical fiction novel – The White Queen (The Cousins’ War # 1) by Philippa Gregory

I’m also reading The Plantagenets by Dan Jones this month, so I thought it might be a nice sort of companion read. I’ve also had this one on my shelf for a long time.

I’m really excited about these picks and about my entire TBR for February in general. Here’s to hoping it’s a good month, both for reading and otherwise!

Romanceopoly: An Introduction + January’s TBR

I thought I’d make a little introduction post for Romanceopoly in case anyone’s unfamiliar. It’s a reading challenge hosted by the ladies at Under the Covers Book Blog and Jessica at Peace Love Books.

You’ll find all the rules, challenges, and recommendations on the Romanceopoly site, but here are some introduction videos, as well:

I’ll be completing the board via the direct route as a native, which means I’ll be going clockwise around the board, from “Welcome to Romanceopolis,” to Dungeon, to Firestation, to Heartbreak Hospital, and all the way back to the beginning. This should total to 39 books for me to read.

Now, that sounds like a lot, and considering that I should be starting grad school in June, these books may end up being the only ones I read until the end of the year…but that’s fine.

My plan is to read roughly 3 a month, plus the mystery challenges when they pop up. I may get ahead of schedule, I may get behind schedule, but I WILL finish.

Leather Lane: Read an urban fantasy where the series is already completed.

I am currently reading this one, and it’s Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost.

Library: Read ANY book you want!

I plan to read Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare for this one so I can finish up the Castles Ever After series.

Kickass Lane: Read an urban fantasy with a picture of a kickass heroine on the cover.

For this one I’ll be reading Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews.

There’s still time to sign up if you want to participate! Even if you don’t want to play along, you could always use the prompts anyway to get some ideas. Regardless, happy reading!
